Abdullah Atia Saber, Associate Professor at Ain Shams University in Cairo, with whom I have been collaborating for many years, in particular on oasis springs and wells, is currently Visiting Scholar in my lab at BiGeA-UniBO and will hold a series of three seminars on algal and cyanobacterial biodiversity of Egyptian aquatic environments, desert crusts and soils (see the attached flyer for further details). In particular, the oasis springs, fed by the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS), are disappearing due to overexploitation of the aquifer with ever deeper wells.
We are very grateful and proud for the announced participation of the Cultural Attaché of the Egyptian Embassy in Rome (Prof. Marwa Fawzy) in the first of these seminars that will take place from 3 to 4 pm on January 29th.
All those interested in algae and biodiversity of aquatic and soil environments in Egypt are warmly invited to participate.
Best wishes
Marco Cantonati
