Programme enrolment: requirements, deadlines and methods

If you are a non-EU citizen living outside Italy, you must submit your admission application to the program by the deadline set in the call. You must also apply for an entry visa for study purposes at the Italian Embassy in your country by pre-enroling online via the Universitaly portal.

We strongly advise you to start the application for an entry visa as soon as you submit your admission request to this programme. Read carefully the information and instructions available at this page.

Residence permit. After having obtained your VISA D type for STUDIO and having arrived in Italy, you MUST apply for a residence permit within 8 days of arrival. PLEASE NOTE THAT:
- pre-enrolment procedure at the Italian Embassy does not grant enrolment to the programme. Your official enrolment will be subject to verification of the authenticity, the accreditation, the level and the academic rights of the qualifications by the Student Administration Office of the University of Bologna, once the original documents have been received.

- procedures for non-EU citizens resident abroad  and non-EU citizens with EU equivalent status are different - Check your status here.

- any additional recommendation letters to be presented to the VISA officers will not be provided without a justified reason and an official request from the Embassy. Therefore, we kindly ask you to avoid making any similar request to any Professor involved in the course.

The course is offered in English, but basic knowledge of the Italian language is also required. The University of Bologna considers it very important that all students have the opportunity to make the best of their study experience, and at the same time offer an experience of life in a new country.

In this experience, the Italian language is a tool that can simplify your life in many aspects, broaden relationships in our community, and foster your social life. At the end of your studying and living experience in Bologna, the Italian language will improve your chances to enter the national job market.

Hence, all international students with no previous knowledge of the Italian language are required to take part in an online Italian language course in blended mode. This course includes self-study online activities and synchronous online meetings with a tutor (once a week). The course is designed to not interfere with other courses in your study plan and to allow you to organize your time autonomously. The courses are offered for CEFR levels A1 and absolute beginners.

EXEMPTION

International students who are already in possession of an Italian language certification or hold a bachelor/secondary school diploma taught in Italian can request recognition to be exempted from completion of the course once they are enrolled to the programme.
