Incoming extra EU students coming through specific agreements with the School of Medicine

Medical students are not required to produce a language certificate upon arrival; however, it is strongly recommended that they reach an intermediate level of Italian language proficiency (B1/B2) by the time they arrive in Bologna. This will help them relate to patients and to hospital personnel.

During your stay there are also several ways of improving your Italian language level. In addition to attending a language course, you can also access or apply for:

• CLA (Centro Linguistico di Ateneo, University of Bologna Language Centre) – registered incoming exchangestudents can apply for Italian language courses. Important note: Italian language courses offered by CLA to incoming exchange students must be applied to in due time – make sure you check the deadlines on their website as soon as possible. MIGHT NOT APPLY FOR SHORT MOBILITIES.
• UNIBO free online resources
• ‘E-Local For All’ project – free online language course for beginners, access restricted to registered students with institutional username (name.surname@studio.unibo.it) and password.

1. The Home University is responsible for sending the applications of interested students to UNIBO, along with their email addresses and the proposal for the rotations schedule (application form attached) six months before the expexted start date.
2. After UNIBO confirms the availability of slots the students will officially accepted.
3. UNIBO International Relations department will send an email to interested students to invite them to complete the registration on AlmaRM (that is, UNIBO's web portal for exchange students);
4. Ufficio Servizi agli Sudenti - Supporto alla Mobilità Internazionale will send an email to students in order to inform them about what to do before and after arriving in Bologna (and before starting the clinical electives): 
   1. Prepare the Health Requirements document (before arrival - see attachment);
   2. Check-in at UNIBO International Relations department;
   3. Meeting at Ufficio Servizi agli Sudenti - Supporto alla Mobilità Internazionale, when useful information will be provided; 
   4. At the end of the exchange you will receive and e-mail with instructions on how to check out at UNIBO International Relations department.

• Tirocini pratici (clinical rotations) are training periods that you spend in the teaching hospital wards, during which you focus on the practical side of patient care and treatment. Clinical activities take place in the morning from 8.00 to 13.00, from Monday to Friday;
• If you are interested in a medical field that does not appear in the application list, please write to Ufficio Servizi agli Sudenti - Supporto alla Mobilità Internazionale and ask if a slot for that clinical rotation is available anyway;
• VENUES: our School of Medicine is located inside the S.Orsola-Malpighi teaching hospital; most clinical rotations take place in this area, and administrative offices are in ‘Polo Murri’ (‘Murri’ building). Some clinical rotations take place in other venues:
  • Ospedale Bellaria – Via Altura, 3;
  • Ospedale Maggiore – Largo Nigrisoli, 2;
  • IOR-Istituti Ortopedici Rizzoli – Via Giulio Cesare Pupilli, 1.

If you have a specific evaluation form you can give it to the hospital departments directly, alternatively we will provide a final evaluation.
