What is OFA (Additional Learning Requirement) and how to fulfil it

What are the Additional Learning Requirements

In order to enrol for the degree programme, it is important that you have certain basic knowledge. The knowledge verification, detailed in the page “Programme enrolment: requirements, deadlines and methods”, aims at ensuring that you do not have significant weaknesses in particular subjects for which appropriate preparation is required to tackle the degree programme successfully.

Additional Learning Requirements (OFA) and enrolment in years other than the first

If you have been assigned Additional Learning Requirements, in the year subsequent to matriculation you will be enrolled in:

  • the second year of the degree programme if you have successfully fulfilled the Additional Learning Requirements;
  • the second year on a conditional basis until you have satisfied the Additional Learning Requirements and, in any case, until 31 March of each year, which coincides with the deadline of the exam session of the academic year of matriculation (e.g. by 31 March 2024 for students enrolled in the a. y. 2022/23 and 31 March 2025 for students enrolled in the a. y. 2023/24, by 31 March 2026 for students enrolled in the a.y. 2024/25, by 31 March 2027 for students enrolled in a.y. 2025/26). As soon as you have satisfied the Additional Learning Requirements, your enrolment will change from second year on a conditional basis to second year, but if you do not satisfy them by 31 March you will be registered as a repeater of the first year.

If you enrol in the second year on a conditional basis:

  • you cannot register for any second year exams until you have satisfied the Additional Learning Requirements (OFA); 
  • you will be able to enrol in the second year and sit the second-year exams, only after satisfying the Additional Learning Requirements (OFA);
  • you will be enrolled as "repeating the first year" if you do not satisfy your OFAs by the end of the first year (deadline by 31 March 2024 for students enrolled in the a. y. 2022/23 and 31 March 2025 for students enrolled in the a. y. 2023/24, by 31 March 2026 for students enrolled in the a.y. 2024/25, by 31 March 2027 for students enrolled in a.y. 2025/26 ).

If you are registered as a repeater of the first year:

  • you can only sit exams included in the study plan for the first year of the degree programme and satisfy the Additional Learning Requirements in good time for enrolment in the second year of the degree programme in the following academic year;
  • you cannot attend lessons for years other than the first;
  • with regard to the loss of student status, repeating a year is the same as registration “fuori corso”.

DEADLINES

The deadline for fulfilling the Additional Learning Requirements is 31 March of each year, which coincides with the deadline of the exam session of the academic year of matriculation (e.g. by 31 March 2024 for students enrolled in the a. y. 2022/23  - 31 March 2025 for students enrolled in the a. y. 2023/24 - 31 March 2026 for students enrolled in the a.y. 2024/25 - by 31 March 2027 for students enrolled in a.y. 2025/26).

The rules and deadlines for the Additional Learning Requirements also apply to part-time students.

HOW TO SATISFY THE ADDITIONAL LEARNING REQUIREMENTS

The additional learning requirements are fulfilled by attendin a Mathematics Pre-Course and by passing a specific OFA test. Download the syllabus from the box on the right side of this page.

MATHEMATICS PRE-COURSE

The course will be held during the first two weeks of September 2025 before the start of classes, from Monday 1st to Friday 12th from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Engineering premises located at 55 Via Tombesi dall'Ova - Ravenna.

OFA TEST CALENDAR FOR A.Y. 2025/26

17 October 2025 at 2.00 p.m.

12 January 2026 at 2.00 p.m.

12 February 2026 at 2.00 p.m.

8 June 2026 at 2.00 p.m.

IMPORTANT!!! You must register to the exam on AlmaEsami at least four days before the exam date! The exam will take place in the Computer Lab, Via Tombesi dall'Ova 55.
