GENERAL INFORMATION ON ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

You can enrol in the 2020/21 academic year from 23/07/2020 to 29/10/2020. Late enrolment is possible until 26/11/2020 with a surcharge.

N.B. If you have a foreign qualification read the specific information before continuing.

To be admitted to the 2nd cycle Degree Programme in International Horticultural Science/Ortofrutticoltura Internazionale candidates must meet the curricular requirements and pass a test to assess their personal competences and skills.

For European students, the 2nd cycle Degree in International Horticultural Science has not a fixed number of positions available, since it’s a free-access Degree Programme with assessment of personal academic preparation (corso a libero accesso con verifica dell’adeguatezza della preparazione personale).

 

CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Science consisting in at least 180 ECTS in the Life Science study area (e.g. Horticulture, Agriculture, Forestry and Biology). Prospective applicants could request to have checked in advance the eligibility of their BSc sending all the relevant documentation (degree certificate and list of exams taken) to the e-mail address: cdl.imahs@unibo.it

For applicants with a European Degree

Possession of a European First-level Degree (or equivalent) in one of the following classes (D.M. 270/04):

L-1 Biotechnology

L-2 Biotechnology

L-12 Biological Science

Alternatively, a degree from a different class from that indicated having acquired credits in the subject areas:

  • AGR/01 – Agricultural economics and rural appraisal: 5 ECTS / CFU
  • AGR/03 – Arboriculture and fruitculture: 5 ECTS / CFU
  • AGR/11 – General and applied entomology 5 ECTS / CFU
  • AGR/12 – Plant pathology 5 ECTS / CFU

In any other case, the Admission Board will evaluate the applicant’s academic background and will ask the student to take an examination to fulfill the missing requirements.

For applicants with a non-European Degree

Bachelor of Science consisting in at least 180 ECTS in the Life Science study area (e.g. Horticulture, Agriculture, Forestry and Biology).

 

LINGUISTIC REQUIREMENTS

Since courses are entirely taught and assessed in English (no Italian language exam is required), admission to the Degree Programme is subject also to the assessment of the proficiency in English language.  Prospective students are required to have at least an intermediate level (B2 accordingly to the Common European Framework for Languages).

English language skills will be assessed. All Applicants must demonstrate an English Language Proficiency no lower than a B2 level (according to CEFR – Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) by providing an International Language Certification.

The assessment of the B2 level knowledge and skills of the English language is fulfilled if the candidate:

  • is a citizen of a country whose official language is English or comes from a course of study in English;
  • has resided in a country whose official language is English for a period at least of 12 months;
  • having passed an English language exam of a B2 level in the previous Degree Programme at the University of Bologna, at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano or at another University Language Centre part of the AICLU (Italian Association of University Language Centres). Please note that this case should be certified through the transcript of records/degree certificate or by an official letter released by the University issuing the Degree.

Students that have achieved a Master or Bachelor Degree entirely taught in English or having passed an English taught exam will be examined by an online interview with the Admission Board that will evaluate the language proficiency.

Prospective applicants not included in one of the previously category are requested to undertake an English language exam, a computer-based test issued by the UNIBO Language Center (CLA).
Please note that this test can be used exclusively to be enrolled in the Degree Programme, but is not an official certification of English. In case, the students will not successfully pass the CLA exams, an official certification must be provided by 17th December 2020 in order to enroll in the Degree Programme.

Linguistic requirements can be modified due to the health emergency.

 

 

 

A call for the B2 online test that will be held:

- JUNE 29 11.00 (registration deadline June 24 12.00)

- JULY 3 13.30 (registration deadline June  29 12.00)

The test will be online. The day before you will be sent the link to access the test. You will need to have the ZOOM application installed on your PC.

 

Please note:

  • This English test can be used exclusively to be admitted to the selection process of the Master Degrees in International Horticultural Sciences (IMAHS) or Precise and Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) and it is not an official English language certification.
  • To sit the test you must have started the ADMISSION PROCEDURE on Studenti Online (even if left partially incomplete).
  • At the end of the test the students will immediately know their results, than they will be communicated directly by Language Center to the Degree Admission Board and will be taken into account in order to admit you to the compulsory oral interview.
  • No certificate will be provided to the students.

ASSESSMENT OF PERSONAL COMPETENCES AND SKILLS

Admission to the 2nd cycle Degree Programme is subject to the passing an oral interview to assess the candidates' personal competencies and skills.

The Admission Board will evaluate the documentation uploaded and, in case of a positive response, students will be asked to undertake an interview with the Admission Board in one of the following dates.

The interview can be performed by Microsoft Teams or Skype. 

The interview will aim to verify the minimal scientific, technical and language knowledge required to fruitfully attend the Master Degree.

The Degree Programme will offer 3 admission interview sessions in the following dates:

  • end of June 2020 (26/6)
  • early of September 2020 (4/9)
  • middle of November 2020 (13/11)

After taking the interview successful candidates will receive an acceptance letter to their email address (@studio.unibo.it). In order to validate their admission they are requested to proceed with the official enrollment as soon as possible.

 

QUALIFYING EXAMINATION FOR STUDENTS WHO DON’T HAVE CURRICULAR REQUISITES

In the absence of the requested degree title and/or credits in some Disciplinary-scientific areas, the admission to the master degree in International Horticultural Science is subordinated to a preliminary evaluation by the admission board that will prove the knowledge and the proficiency of the candidate.

The admission board is composed by professors, each one related to a specific disciplinary-scientific area:

Students who do not have a 1st cycle Degree in one of the classes mentioned in the call for admissions and who are not planning to enroll to each missing course will have to take a qualifying examination for each missing disciplinary-scientific area. Students are invited to check in advance the teaching Programme for each learning activity and to contact in advance the responsible professor.

N.B. In order to be able to participate in one of the sessions mentioned, it is mandatory for students to:
1) have sent the pre-enrollment application through Studenti Online;
2) have received the official convocation message from the admission board through the private institutional e-mail @studio.unibo.it;
3) have sent back the inscription confirmation for the interview.

All the details and communications will be sent by e-mail to the student institutional @studio.unibo.it.

INFORMATION ON THE ORAL EVALUATION

Since the test is carried out at a minimum university knowledge level, any of the aforementioned undergraduate subjects can be taken as study reference from any Bachelor’s degree program.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

In order to apply, prospective students need to:

  1. register via Studenti Online
  2. select “Admission application"
  3. select “Second cycle degree programme”
  4. select “International Horticultural Science”
  5. fill in the online form with your data
  6. close the procedure
  7. when the "application summary" is generated, upload your Self-certification of admission requirements (containing exams, CFU and SSD)

PLEASE NOTE:

The self-certification form can only be uploaded after having closed the application procedure.

Students must attach the following documents to their application:

  1. front and back photocopy of a valid ID card/Passport or other valid document of identification;
  2. Application Form filled with all the necessary information and signed by the student;
  3. transcript of academic records: Bachelor’s Degree certificate reporting the full list of exams and grades achieved, including final graduation mark (Italian students can attach a self-certification of their 1st cycle Degree Programme, while EU applicants their Diploma Supplement);
  4. English proficiency certificate (If you are not in possess of this requirement please attach a letter where you declare that you are going to sit the English language exam issued by CLA or another international language test);
  5. Curriculum Vitae in English/résumé;

Applicants should be aware that – throughout the online application – they will be required to identify their graduation mark or CGPA, as well as the maximum score achievable (for instance 14 out of 20, 65 out of 100, 2.5 out of 4).

The Admission Board will process the application forms according to submissions. Applications may be submitted starting from May 1, 2020 and ending June 19, 2020. Students may apply and get feedback regarding their application according to the following schedule:

The application deadline times are at 1.00 PM (Central European Time) for each closing date.

Please note that the first intake is the only possible for Non Eu students.

OUTCOME

Results will be posted on Studenti Online. If the Admission Board deems the applicant meets all the requirements and issues a Positive Evaluation, the application light will turn green, otherwise, for a Negative Evaluation the application light will turn red.

Notification from the Coordinator, regarding your application, will be visible directly in your Students Online profile.

Once enrolled, you will be able to sign up for the "Workplace Safety and Health" course which is mandatory for all students.

Matriculation

After you have checked that all the admission requirements have been met, you can enrol on Studenti online:

  1. complete the application for matriculation with the required data and attach an ID photograph in digital format;
  2. pay the first instalment of tuition fees.
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the procedure and receive your badge

Remember that to complete matriculation

a) if you are a non-EU citizen with EU equivalent status, you need to send a copy of the valid residence permit giving you EU equivalent status to the responsible Student Administration Office;

b) if you are a non-EU citizen residing abroad, see the detailed information. You will need to send to the responsible Student Administration Office a copy of your valid residence permit or, if your residence permit has not yet been issued, a copy of your study entry visa and subsequently a copy of the receipt confirming submission of your application, with which your matriculation will be accepted subject to verification;

c) if you have a degree obtained abroad, see the detailed information. You will need to send the degree documentation to the responsible Student Administration Office.

If you have a disability with an assessed level of invalidity of at least 66%, or you hold disability certification in accordance with Italian law 104/92, you can request exemption by sending the certificate proving the condition to the email address of the responsible Student Administration Office
