Practical Evaluation Test (PPV)

The Practical Evaluation Test (PPV) takes place before thesis defense and aims to assess the candidate’s ability to apply a professional approach based on theoretical models and empirical evidence. It also evaluates adherence to ethical principles, professional responsibilities, and conduct rules of the psychology profession. Additionally, it assesses the candidate’s ability to critically reflect on their internship experience and related activities.

After submitting their graduation application and successfully completing all required coursework, students register for the Practical Assessment Test (PPV) on AlmaEsami, according to their campus and Master’s Degree Programme (CdLM). The PPV must take place in the same session for which the graduation application was submitted.

Candidates may only register for the PPV assigned to their specific Master’s Degree Program, even if multiple examination committees operate during a session. It is not possible to take the PPV with a different committee than the one designated for the specific Master’s Degree Program.

Only candidates who meet all eligibility requirements are allowed to take the PPV.

Students enrolled in the qualifying degree course must pay the tax of € 49.58, due for the professional qualification, on postal account no. 1016 - payable to Agenzia delle Entrate - Tasse Scolastiche - Centro Operativo di Pescara. They will then have to send, from their institutional e-mail address, a copy of the relevant payment receipt to the e-mail address segcesena@unibo.it with the subject: ‘Ricevuta tassa erariale laurea abilitante’.

The payment must be done before the deadline for submission of degree application.

The PPV is an oral examination, focusing on:

• activities performed during the Practical Training Evaluation (TPV);
• the connection between theories/models and professional practices;
• aspects of legislation and professional ethics.

Pursuant to article 3, paragraph 3, of Interministerial Decree no. 654 of 5 July 2022, the candidate will be examined by a committee of four members, including:

• two university professors from psychology-related disciplines, appointed by the Department, one of whom acts as the President;
• two members appointed by the National Council of the Order of Psychologists, after consultation with the Order of Psychologists of the Emilia-Romagna Region, who have been registered on the professional register for at least five years.

The PPV result is either pass (idoneità) or fail (non idoneità).

Candidates who fail may retake the PPV in the next available session.

Once the PPV is passed and recorded in AlmaEsami, the candidate is eligible to proceed with the thesis defense, provided they upload their thesis to Studenti Online and receive approval from their thesis supervisor according to the university’s established procedures and deadlines.

The PPV is held once per graduation session, with three sessions per academic year:

1. winter session;
2. summer session;
3. autumn session.

The PPV schedule is published at the start of the academic year, alongside the schedule for graduation sessions.
