Instructions for the presentation of the Position Paper (PP) and Research Paper (RP) - for host students -
The presentation of the Position Paper should be divided into the following sections: conceptual or theoretical framework, previous studies/findings; aim and objectives of your thesis; study design, measures, type of participants and organisations, statistical analyses; other information about data collection.
The presentation of the Research Paper should be divided into the following sections: a brief overview of the conceptual or theoretical framework, previous studies/findings aim and objectives of your thesis; study design, measures, type of participants and organisations, statistical analyses; results and implications.
Prepare and rehearse the speech beforehand to feel confident and not to violate the time limit (15 minutes including Q&A)
Speak slowly, clearly and loudly.
In the presentation of the Research paper, devote some time to show the main findings of your study and the novelty of your approach.
Pay attention to discrepancies in the presentation (e.g., use the same term to indicate the same construct).
Quality of content is more important than quantity: make sure your slides are not filled with everything you need to say. Be concise, be effective!
Do not use videos or distracting animations.
Do not read the text of the slides during the presentation, the slides are only an aid to your speech.
The text in the slides should be readable, and the most important sentences might be highlighted. Tips: minimum font of 24, text in dark colour and white background.
Research hypotheses are statements, research questions are... questions: if necessary, distinguish between H1a and H1b if they are two facets of the same hypothesis.
Make use of photos or images to describe the work setting or the procedure of the study. Images can also be helpful in case of technological devices used for the study.
Do not use titles such as "Statistical analysis" or "Introduction", it is better to use specific titles.
Add the values of the statistical tests (e.g., F, t, r), the p-value and the effect size at the base of the table of the figure.
Include references in brackets following APA format (e.g., Author, Year).
Do not conclude your presentation with limitations of your work but with future developments or with practical and theoretical implications.
Do not insert a slide with all the references at the end.
Do not insert a slide "Thank you for your attention".
