Function in a professional context:
Area specialists can performvarious functions, depending on the sector in which they work (academic,private business, think tanks):
- they study, describe andinterpret the origin, development and dynamics of political, economic, socialand cultural transformations in the macro-region or in sub-regions or countriesin the area of reference;
- they plan, direct and managecommercial and economic activities in this area (or targeting this area) withparticular international relevance;
- they coordinate and manageinvestment and production projects in this area (or targeting this area) ofinternational relevance;
- they work in the field ofcooperation and development with countries in the area;
- they work as professionalconsultant for businesses, economic organisations or institutions, specialisedin the countries in the area;
- they perform market surveys,sales analyses and mediation activities relating to the area of interest;
- they work in think tanks andperform analyses for specialised research centres relating to the area ofinterest;
- they perform politicalassessments and diplomatic mediation activities in governmental institutionsrelating to the area of interest;
- they perform research andacademic teaching activities in their field of specialisation;
- they are able to outline scenarios;
- they are able to conduct/manageintercultural communication projects;
- they are able to performfeasibility studies and produce assessments on the state of implementation ofreforms or measures adopted in regions/countries in the area of interest;
- they are able to processprimary sources or information and report with in-depth knowledge on the areaof specialisation.
