Clinical clerkships - General information

Clinical clerkship types, information, requirements

Curricular clinical clerkships

Curricular clinical clerkships are an integral part of the programme curriculum, and are therefore mandatory for all students enrolled on the Degree Programme.

Curricular clinical clerkship is structured into several training activities scheduled throughout the duration of the programme, as indicated in the programme curriculum.

Check the following pages for further information about:

TPV evaluation clerkship (TPV)

The TPV evaluation clerkship (TPV) is the qualifying clinical clerkship regulated by Ministerial Decree 81/2008; it is scheduled during Year 6 of the programme.

In order to access the TPV, in addition to the mandatory requirements listed to access curricular clinical clerkships, students are required to have successfully passed all learning activities up to and including Year 4 of the degree programme and to pay a special tax for professional licensing.

Check the TPV evaluation clerkship (TPV) information page for further details.

Thesis preparation project

Starting from Year 5, students may apply for a thesis preparation project if they plan to attend the hospital ward where they carry out their thesis preparation in addition to their curricular clinical clerkships.

The thesis preparation project can last up to 12 months and must be agreed upon with the thesis supervisor.

Check the Thesis preparation project information page for further details.

Clinical clerkship opportunities abroad

The University of Bologna and the School of Medicine offer several opportunities for international mobility, which allow to carry out also practical training activities.

Check the ‘Experiences abroad’ section in the ‘Opportunities’ section of this website, in particular the ‘International outgoing mobility’ page, and the ‘Motore dei Bandi’ (University board of calls for applications) for information on international mobility calls.

Attention! Students who carry out internship activities through International Mobility Programs promoted by Unibo (Erasmus+, Overseas, study grants for international learning experiences abroad and study grants awarded by the degree program) must NOT book these internships through the Studenti Online platform. These must only be listed in mobility documents and on Alma RM and will be registered through the normal recognition procedure.

Internship in preparation for the final exam abroad

If your thesis project involves carrying out extra-curricular clerkship/internship activities abroad, check the ‘Experiences abroad’ section in the ‘Opportunities’ section of this website, in particular the ‘International outgoing mobility’ page, and the ‘Motore dei Bandi’ (University board of calls for applications) for information on international mobility calls.

Please note: check whether your thesis project requires the acquisition of the opinion of the Ethics Committee, and if your chosen host institution abroad has a similar procedure/requirement.
